Tracy Going, a former TV and Radio personality’s life was thrown into disarray when she found herself caught up in a violent, abusive relationship. He was everything she thought she wanted; charming and successful – but none of it was real and five months later she staggered into the police station battered and bruised. A short relationship became a two-and-a-half-year legal ordeal that played out in the public eye.

The damages were lasting.

This book is the journey into her past and trying to break the cycle of abuse in her life. Tracy writes about making the decision as a child that she would never be a ‘battered’ woman like her mother yet at the age of thirty, at the height of a burgeoning career, she became a victim. 

She takes us through the harrowing court process and her understanding that she would never have an outright victory because of the bias and lack of sensitivity and empathy in the courtroom. She describes her decline into depression, the collapse of her career and the decades long journey to ultimately picking up the pieces of her life. 

This book is the realisation that healing is a process and that self-forgiveness is essential in order to embrace life fully.

Those who are in recovery often find it challenging to include them in their daily routine, especially because they are not very good at making time for themselves. Some methods such as meditation can be very difficult for a person who is traumatised and still ruminating about everything that’s happening in their relationship/s.
